Bartholomew R. “Bart” Golankiewicz, 70, of Bethel, beloved husband of Cathy (Mandelino) Golankiewicz, passed away at Bethel Health Care Center, after a gallant fight with Cancer. Bart was married to Cathy for 48 years and enjoyed traveling together to many destinations.
Bart was born in The Bronx, New York, son of Anna R. Golankiewicz, of Bethel and the late Roman B. Golankiewicz. He graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School, Bronx, New York in 1959. He also attended the American Institute of Banking throughout his career as a Banker, for over 30 years throughout Westchester and Fairfield Counties. After leaving banking he was involved with the family flooring business since 1992. Bart was an avid racing enthusiast and was a member of the Sports Car Club of America since 1984. He raced Formula 500 cars at his favorite track, Lime Rock Park, Salisbury. In addition to his racing interests, he loved the NY Giants and his grandchildren, that made him smile. He was very proud of his family and especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his daughter Catherine-Ann Manzella and her husband Ray of Woodbury, his son-in-law Jeff LaCava of Bethel, his four grandchildren, Zachary and Hannah LaCava and Maxwell and Sophia Manzella, his brother Roman Golankiewicz and wife Janet of Brewster, NY as well as his niece, nephew and many cousins. He was recently predeceased by his beloved daughter Stephanie LaCava.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church of Bethel on Friday at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to St. Mary School, 24 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel, CT, 06801.
