Bernard John Joseph McRedmond, 72, of Danbury, passed peacefully at home on Monday, November 24, 2014. He was born in Stamford on January 14, 1942 to Jean (Rogalski) and Bernard McRedmond Sr. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and was a 1960 industrial electronics graduate from J.M. Wright Technical School. Bernie married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Ede on June 2, 1962, and they moved to Danbury shortly after. They have three children, Kathleen, Heather, and Mark.
Bernie was a man of many talents and held many positions over his lifetime. He was well versed in the electronics field and his employment included companies such as Cober Electronics, Manson Labs, Pitney Bowes, Alpex Computer, Universal Voltronics, Network Control Corporation, and Kimchuk, Inc. A very social person, he decided to join his love of people with his love of cars and started his own limousine company, Uncle Bernie’s Limo. He had many regular customers who all enjoyed his first class service, coupled with his ample sense of humor and genuine concern for his clients and their families. He enjoyed this job until his retirement.
During his lifetime, he was a Rotarian, an EMT, and a volunteer fireman for Independent Hose Company Number 4. He loved cars and was a great tinkerer. His favorite show on TV was the Mecum Car Auction. He also loved to go out to eat and anytime someone else went out, his questions was always, “What did you have?” Everywhere Bernie went he made friends. He was alway ready to lend a hand or an ear, and could fix just about anything. If he couldn’t fix it, he would know someone who could and made sure that it got done. His love for his family was immeasurable and he was never happier than on the holidays or any day that the whole family was together, eating, and laughing. His family extended to those around him; he was loved by everyone...he was “Dad” to many and everyone’s “Uncle Bernie.”
Bernie leaves behind his loving wife Shirley, his daughter Kathleen (Gold) and her husband Michael of New Milford, his daughter Heather of Knoxville, TN, and his son Mark and wife Peggy of New Milford. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Taylor Davis, Austin and Ayden Gold and Mariah McRedmond. Bernie is survived by a brother, Eugene McRedmond and wife Audrey (The Villages, FL), and several nieces and nephews and was predeceased by his youngest brother, Peter McRedmond. He also leaves behind a multitude of extended family and friends.
A Prayer Service will be conducted at 3:30pm on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the funeral home.
