Born in Saint Bernardo, Italy, he entered the U.S. Army in June 1941 and served his country admirably for 52 months in the most dangerous areas of war in the North African campaign. He was discharged August 30, 1945, and received an Honorable Service medal, WWII Victory medal, and a European, African and Middle Eastern Campaign medal.
Bernard worked in Danbury as a hatter for the former Mallory Hat Factory and then for Berol Corporation for many years. He was passionate about his vegetable gardening, making wine and Italian sopressata.
Besides his lovely wife of 61 years, Bernard is survived by his two sons: Raymond of Danbury and Richard and his wife, Sylvia, of Trumbull. His two grandsons: Matthew and Michael, whom he adored. Also surviving is a very large and extended family in the U.S. and Australia. He was dearly loved by all and will be missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10am at St. Joseph Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 8:30am to 9:30am at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
