Bette was born on April 27, 1931, in Danbury, Connecticut to Jennie and William Woodin. She lived a life of caring for her family who she loved dearly and spending time with her husband, Lou, who was her best friend. She graduated from Dickinson High School in Jersey City and started her career at Union Trust serving as a Secretary to the President of the bank. For many years she worked for the Danbury Public School system finishing her career as a Secretary at Danbury High School.
One of Bette's most fulfilling roles was serving as a homemaker for her family, filling their home in Danbury with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories. She continued to do the same for her grandchildren after retiring to Woodbury with her husband Louis and volunteered at the Woodbury Library covering books and connecting with the community.
In 1952 Bette married Louis J. Gurry, and together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage and built a loving family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing rummikubs, going on adventures to Vermont, blueberry picking, swimming at Lake Waramaug, and having iced tea at their gazebo in Woodbury. She was widely known for her kindness, carefree attitude, and her witty sense of humor.
Bette is survived by her children: Robert and Holly Gurry of Watertown, CT; and Laura Gurry (Bill) of New Jersey; and her grandchildren: William and Nicole Gurry; Jill Gurry (Wesley); Elizabeth Gurry (David); and Emily Bussard (Jacob); and great-grandson Cameron Gurry and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jennie and William Woodin; husband, Louis J. Gurry; sister, Adeline Hoffman; brother-in-law, Joseph A. Hoffman Jr.; brother, William Woodin; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Woodin.
