Catherine T. DeBellis

Catherine, affectionately known as Gram, Grandma, Manna, and GiGi, was born on October 5, 1920 in the Bronx, New York, to Joseph and Mary (Diehl) Powers. She graduated from high school in the Bronx, NY and after graduation married the love of her life, Augustin DeBellis. They were married on October 25, 1941 and raised their 3 children in the Bronx.

They enjoyed spending the summers on Ball Pond in New Fairfield. After her husband’s death, Catherine relocated to New Fairfield to join the rest of her family and later in life, became an active part of the New Fairfield Senior Center.

Catherine was an accomplished knitter and created beautiful blankets and clothing for her beloved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her love for her family was deep and she never missed a birthday - the card was always there on time. She was extremely proud of her 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, with the 17th newly arrived on June 15. Manna needed to make sure all was well with the newest addition before saying goodbye to the world.

Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Augustin, her sisters: Margie Diebold, Helen Gallon, and Florie Werner, her brothers: Edward and Joseph Powers, and her daughter-in-law, Lynn (Pilla) DeBellis.

She is survived by her children: Edward DeBellis and his wife, Patsy; Dennis DeBellis and his wife, Dennie; and Mary Jayne Viola and her husband, Joseph. Her grandchildren Edward (Stephanie) DeBellis Jr., Kori (John) Petrone , Richard (Colleen) DeBellis, Dennis (Carrie) DeBellis Jr, Nicholas (Kaitlyn) DeBellis, Joseph (Mary Lou) Viola Jr., Jessica (Paul) Paquette, and Amanda (Peter) Beuttenmuller; and her great grandchildren Jonathan, Olivia, Rachael, Joey, Karli, Michael, Kelly, Meghan, Jake, Carolynn, Anna, Ava, Lenna, Benjamin, Samuel, Augustin, and Gracelynn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Monday, June 26, 2017 at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield where she was a member. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery, New Fairfield.

Friends will be received from 2-5pm on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
