Cecilia J. Mulvihill of New Fairfield, CT passed away on May 16, 2013. Born and educated in the Bronx, she was the daughter of Christian and Susan Mulvihill. Cele is survived by nieces Bridget Baxter Powell, Nora Baxter Ehrling, Eileen Baxter Toro, numerous grand nieces as well as many great grand nieces and nephews. Cele obtained her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from New York University and was a teacher in the New York City Public Schools. When she retired in 1968, she held the position of Assistant Principal of PS 5 in the Bronx.
While residing in New York, she was a Past Commander of the Lady Foresters of America, state of New York, and Past Grand Regent of Court Regina of the Catholic Daughters of America.
In 1947 she bought a home in New Fairfield where she spent summers and weekends in the spring and fall. At that time New Fairfield was a small farming town with only a few summer homes. When she retired, she moved full time to New Fairfield. She always said that the best thing she ever did was to make New Fairfield her permanent home. Cele was one of the founders of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic church and a member of the Ladies Guild for whom she chaired many functions to raise money to help the parish grow. For over 35 years she was also a member of the St. Edward’s sewing group and made cancer pads for the Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, NY. Cele was also an avid volunteer at the New Fairfield Senior Center when it was located at the New Fairfield Company A Firehouse and then at its location in Heritage Plaza. Cele led an exercise class at both locations and volunteered for the Senior Center congregate lunch program.
Calling hours will be held at St Edward the Confessor Church of Friday May 24,2013 from 11 00 am to 12 noon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12 noon.
