In the spring of 1941, Cliff enlisted in the Army with his best friend Oliver and they were sent to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Cliff was assigned to Company K, 27th Infantry Regiment of the 25th Infantry Division “Tropic Lightning”. On Sunday December 7th, 1941, he was conducting “police call” with his fellow soldiers, picking up cigarette butts on the ground, when the Japanese attacked. He would spend the next four years fighting in the Pacific Theater, earning the Purple Heart on the island of New Georgia, and then returning to combat. In April of 1945, Cliff returned home to Norwalk with many War stories that he loved to tell his children and friends.
In 1945 Cliff met Dorothy Juleson. They married in 1946 and celebrated 58 years of marriage this past November. Cliff was a 25 year employee of Connecticut Light and Power/Northeast Utilities, retiring from the company in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hall; his brother Richard and wife Francis; his sister Marie and husband Dave Johnson; his three children, Clifford III, Susan Bahr, and Douglas; his two daughter in laws, Norma and Joungsun (Joanne); seven grandchildren, Dallas Gozdowski, Deanna Wiuff, Kevin Bahr, Jessica Bahr, Christopher Graves, Joyce Graves, and Ryan Hall; and three great grandchildren, Cordelia Gozdowski, Brooklyn Gozdowski, and Talan Wiuff.
Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St, Danbury, on Sunday from 1 to 4pm, with a funeral service to be held at 3pm. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will take place at the DAV, 25 Segar St, Danbury, at 5pm. Interment will be held at Ridgebury Cemetery on Monday at 11am.
