

Green Funeral Home regrets to announce that Clotilde de Jesus Melo Do Couto, 89, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family on Tuesday August 25, 2020. She was born on December 28, 1930 in Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel, Azores to Jose de Melo and Maria do Espírito Santo Sousa. She was the 4th of eleven children.
In her home town she was very well know and respected because she worked in the local pharmacy in the 1940’s, and always went out of her way to help people. She was very sociable and had many friends.
On April 23, 1955 she married the love of her life Antonio Do Couto. They had three beautiful children, Alfredo Do Couto (Adelia), Mary Jo Da Cunha (Fernando) and Odete Braga (Daniel).
In 1969, they moved to Bermuda in which she worked as a housekeeper, she had strong work ethics and great pride in the work that she did.
In 1976, she and her family moved to Danbury, CT. She worked for American Radionics as a factory worker, where at age 54, she obtained her drivers license, which showed the independent woman that she was. Clotilde was promoted to Supervisor until the factory closed. We were all very proud of her. She then worked as a housekeeper at Mediplex Nursing Home until she retired in 1992, at which time they returned to their place of birth where they enjoyed their retirement. She enjoyed her retirement years living her life with the hobbies she most enjoyed, such as crocheting blankets for her grandchildren, cooking, gardening and spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted Catholic and never missed a Sunday of mass.
When her husbands health was failing in 2011 they both returned to Danbury to be near their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her husband Antonio passed in 2011 and since then she lived with her beloved daughter Maria.
She was a beloved Grandmother to Jessica Jacobs (Eden), Michelle Da Cunha, Kelly Mesa (Oscar), Andrew Da Cunha, Alexander Braga, Daniel Braga(Maisa),Jasmine Do Couto (So), Roberto Braga (Samantha) and seven great grandchildren, Austin, Ashley, Jayden, Carmen, Hayley, Gavin,and Dominic. Several nieces, nephews, two brothers, sisters-in-laws and brother-in-laws.
The Do Couto family would like to thank the staff at Regional Hospice of Western CT, and the nurses from the 12th tower at Danbury Hospital, for their compassion and dignified care provided to Clotilde.
A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Danbury Friends are invited to a Graveside Service on Friday, Aug. 28, 2020 at 11;45am at St. Peters Cemetery in Danbury.
She will be truly missed by her family, may she Rest In Peace
