David was born in Danbury, CT on March 15, 1948, to Walter R. Benjamin and Helen Rydziel Benjamin. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated Danbury High School in 1965. He attended Western CT State College.
David worked in a variety of fields. He was in the Iron Workers Union and was a trained union welder. As an Iron worker he traveled out of state for jobs in Ohio, Vermont and Maine.
After a job related injury, he trained at an IT technical school as a computer programmer. This lead to positions in IT as a programmer analyst at Heublein and General Reinsurance. After time in IT, Dave became a sales representative for an insurance and investment company.
His most recent job, in his seventies, was as a security guard with GardaWorld.
David had many interests. As a young man he enjoyed playing baseball and football. He played on a neighborhood team versus other neighborhood teams at Lee Field and Rogers Park.
He also loved hiking. He not only hiked the Conn. parks, but often hiked parts of the Appalachian Trail, Yellowstone Park in Wyoming and other parks in New England. He loved the beauty of nature and, as he said, was not impressed with man-made things.
David loved to travel. He visited New Orleans during Mardi Gras, Florida, and Cape Cod. During his time at Western State College, he traveled with a tour group to China, Thailand and Hawaii.
Throughout his life, David had many interests. He loved board games, cards and especially crossword puzzles.
He was an excellent cook and prep man at weekly dinners at his sister’s house --- “Monday Night Dinner with Brother Dave” pictures showed up on Facebook every week until he was reassigned to a night shift at his job.
It must be said his favorite pastime was studying the Bible. He was passionate about his faith in the Lord and found strength in the reading of the Bible and attending weekly Bible study meetings.
David had a strong and loyal family bond. He was a devoted brother and a source of constant support to all. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his sister Roberta B. Sasso, her husband David Sasso of Woodbury, a nephew John Sasso and his wife Pamela of Fayetteville, GA, a niece Helena Sasso and great-niece Lily Sasso of Woodbury.
A celebration of life will follow at a later date.
