David was born in Bridgeport, CT on September 25, 1953, to Samuel Stevenson and Eileen (Kelt) Stevenson. He graduated from Greenwich High School in 1971 and from Western Connecticut State University in 1975 with a B.S. in Elementary Education.
After a few years teaching in Florida, David returned to Connecticut and spent most of his career as a realtor. Recently, he rediscovered his passion for education as a substitute teacher. He was also a proud public access television host, bringing viewers the colorful and thought-provoking programs Progressive Soup and Basil BuddhaCat Presents.
In his will, David wrote that his most valuable possessions were his love for his family and for justice for all throughout the world, and he asked those he loved to carry them on. He signed off the same way he lived, with "Namaste to all, both friend and foes."
He is survived by his children: Kim Stevenson and her children, Izzy and Rose; Sarah Stevenson and her children, Kai and Elka; and Colby Stevenson, his wife Nicole Labrozzi, and their children, Caden and Tessa; his brother, Ed Boenses, and his wife, Cory, of Florida; his niece, Hene Boenses; and many friends, including former spouses Deborah Cox and Diane Wlass Stevenson.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Celebrations of David's life will be scheduled in the coming months.
