Dennis I. Elpern

Dennis was born in Chicago, IL to the late Thelma and Melvin Elpern. He moved frequently as a child and ultimately graduated from Boyertown Area High School in Boyertown, PA in 1964. From there he went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in 1968 from the School of Government and Public Administration at American University in Washington, D.C.

He and his high school sweetheart, Joanne, were married in 1969. They began life together in Harrisburg, PA where he received his Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Pennsylvania State University.

Dennis began his professional career as a member of the planning staff of the Centre Regional Planning Commission in State College, PA, eventually becoming director.

In 1988 Dennis accepted the position of Planning Director of Danbury and retired from that position on Nov. 1, 2015. He loved his work and took great pride in his accomplishments. His ideas and their realization over 27 years as planning director will stand as his memorial for many years to come.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015 from 4pm-7pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
