Doris was born in New York City, daughter of the late James and Pauline (Baker) Brush. She and her husband raised their family in Woodhaven (Queens), New York and moved to Bethel in 1979.
Doris was devoted to her family, an avid reader who liked to sort out the villains in countless mysteries and was active in her church and its activities, particularly volunteering with the St. Mary's of Bethel clothing bank until age 90. Having been a true "city kid”, she never applied for a driver's license. When she came to Bethel, she became a regular walk-in visitor to most of the shops and merchants along Greenwood Avenue, chatting with and befriending everyone whose path she crossed.
She is survived by two daughters: Maureen Knup and her husband Steve of Brookfield, CT, Patricia Healy of Ridgefield, CT, and a son, Paul Healy of Bridgton, ME. She was the cherished "Grandma" to her two grandchildren: Sarah Knup of San Francisco, CA and Daniel Knup and his wife Emily of Holliston, MA and her two great grandchildren: Luke and Ella Knup and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Eugene, David and Charles Brush.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 8 Robinson Ave., Danbury, CT, on Monday, December 23rd at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her name may be made to Catholic Charities - Danbury, 405 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810.
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff of Filosa for their tender and supportive care provided during Doris' residence there and most particularly in her final days.
