

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Daniel, son Robert, brother Paul Degnan and son in law Robert T. White, Sr. Dorothy is survived by her sons John (Wynne) of New Canaan, Paul (Donna) of Belleville, N.J, Daniel ( Debra) of New York, NY and daughter Ann O’Connor White of New Fairfield, CT. Dorothy also leaves behind five grandchildren, Joan Archer (Herbert), Daniel O’Connor ( Pamela), Elizabeth O’Connor ( Steve), Daniel E. O’Connor, and Grady White. In addition, Dorothy leaves behind five great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law Rachel O’Connor.
Dorothy was born on February 4, 1921, in New York City, daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Joyce) Degnan; she was a graduate of St. Vincent Ferrer high school in New York City. In Dorothy’s early years she worked for General Electric and the Diamond Match Company in New York City, She lived for many years in Jackson Heights, N.Y., where she was an active volunteer at St. Joan of Arc parish and school.
In the early 1970s, she became a full-time resident of Candlewood Isle where the family had spent summers since 1958. Dorothy embarked on a real estate career starting her own business, Candlewood Lake Properties, and later working for Century 21 King Realty. Dorothy loved her work, the challenges of the business included; although Dorothy truly enjoyed the personal interactions that it afforded.
She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who will be remembered for her love of family, her faith, and love of life. She enjoyed traveling, even making a trip to Ireland with her family at age 98. She traveled much of the United States with her husband and enjoyed many cruises with her sister-in-law Rachel O’Connor. She loved baseball, particularly the Yankees, UConn women’s basketball, and college football.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Church 21 Brush Hill Rd. New Fairfield, CT 06812; on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Gerow Cemetery, New Fairfield, CT 06812. The family will receive friends at the Green Funeral Home 57 Main Street Danbury, CT 06810; on Monday, November 1, 2021, from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the charity of one’s choice.
