Douglas A. Schmid

October 12, 1959September 10, 2020

Douglas A. Schmid was born in Portchester, NY on October 12, 1959 and passed away on September 10, 2020.

He was a month shy of his 61st birthday. He grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut and lived in Danbury, CT and Bethel, CT.

He graduated from Nathaniel Hawthorne College and was a flight instructor at Westchester Airport. Doug worked for Preferred Utilities in Danbury, CT for 20 years, but spent the past 26 years doing his favorite job of all, being a Dad.

Doug enjoyed the simple things in life: playing his favorite songs on his acoustic guitar, the ocean, lifting weights, grilling, and pumpkin pie.

Doug is survived by his beautiful wife, Debbi, whom he loved through thick and thin, his two children, Douglas and Morgan, who carry on his incredible sense of humor and charm, his mother, Ellie Morgan, his wonderful siblings, nieces and nephews, many friends, and extended family.

Doug was hardworking, humble, steadfast, and a rock for all who knew and loved him. He will truly be missed.

If you want to feel close to Doug, throw on a Tom Petty song and he will be right there with you.

A private Memorial Mass will be celebrated for Doug at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Danbury.

A celebration of life will be scheduled and communicated at a later date.

  • A Memorial Mass Will Be Celebrated Privately. There Will Be A Celebration Of Life Service At A Later Date.

Dear Aunt Eleanor, Cousins Debbi, Allen, Allene, Dale , Lee and all members of the Schmid / Morgan clan:

While it's been quite a long time since I last spoke with Doug, his passing comes as a shock to the system... People you know as kids, play with and laugh with, are supposed to live on. Our lives, careers, and families took us in different directions. But I always remember the warmth and good nature of my younger cousin. I recall that he was so much like his Mom in that respect. Natalie and I offer our prayers for you all, and especially for Doug. We will have a Mass said for him next month at the Indiana University Catholic Center here in Bloomington. We offer our sincerest condolences to one and all.

As a co-77 Saint Mary High School grad, we were fortunate to know almost all of our just over 100 classmates in one way or another. Our paths crossed several times over our high school days and Doug was well liked by all. Condolences to all family and friends at this difficult time, Way too soon.

You gave so much joy to every one of us. We will all honor you by living everyday with same joy you gave to us so freely and so easily. I’ll always remember my uncle Doug sitting on the couch, strumming away on his guitar with a slight grin on his face. Content with his family around him. You will always be with us. Your love gives us strength.

Since Morgan and I became friends in 5th grade, I've probably gone to your home hundreds of times. I would always expect to find you sitting on the couch, strumming your guitar. You'd say "hey Bride-ster!" and ask me about my family or school. I always felt welcomed by you and comforted by your presence.

When I slept over, you'd be done with your morning workout before we even woke up. I admire how you were so dedicated to your routine and made time for the things you enjoyed.

You were so gracious to include me with your family, like when we'd go to Chuck's Steakhouse every New Year's Eve. You even covered for Morgan and I when we got into trouble in high school!

I'm so grateful to have known you during your short time here. I can honestly say that my best friend had one of the greatest dads I've ever known. I promise that I will be here for Morgan to help her through this difficult time, and we will do our best to keep your memory alive.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Schmid.
