Nell was born on May 13, 1969, in New York City, the youngest of four daughters born to Joanna “Jolly” Kellogg and Alfred Uhry. She grew up on the Upper West Side, where she attended the Calhoun School. She then attended West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, West Virginia, where she met her husband of 27 years, Tom Burdett.
Nell spent her twenties in Los Angeles working in television, including as a production assistant on Home Improvement and several other sitcoms. She later worked as a personal assistant to Al Franken during his years as a comedian.
Nell was fantastic company. Her ability to find the humor in any and every situation will be deeply missed by all those she made laugh, and there are many. She certainly knew how to light up a room- but not every room. Only the ones with the best people. Nell was simply magnetic. One could only hope to be in the right room with her.
Nell is preceded in death by her mother, Jolly Uhry, and sister, Emily Uhry.
Nell is survived by her children, Jane and Max Burdett; her husband, Tom Burdett; her father, Alfred Uhry; and her sisters, Elizabeth Uhry MacCurrach and Kate Uhry.
A memorial for Nell will be held in Manhattan in 2027.
