

Al was born in Catanzaro, Italy, a son of the late Antonio and Emilia Gigliotti Scalzo. He immigrated to the United States in 1960, settling in Danbury. Al served in the US Army from 1963 to 1965. A printer in the Danbury area for almost 50 years, he was most recently with Warren Press, retiring in 2004. A devoted father and grandfather, Al was also an avid Yankees fan.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Danbury. In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his father-in-law, Edward Cerrone. Besides his wife of 47 years, survivors include children: Michael E. Scalzo and Lisa Lynn Scalzo, both of Danbury. His grandchildren: Jordan, Tyler and Anthony Scalzo. His mother-in-law: Blanche Cerrone of Danbury. His sister: Maria Perri of Toronto, Canada. His brother: Felix Scalzo and his wife, Sara, of Danbury. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10am at St. Joseph Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
