It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth "Betty" Walters Scofield Kaylor Lepus who left us on Saturday, May 17 at the age of 94. Betty was born July 15,1930 in Beloit, WI to the late Leland and Emmy Walters. She grew up in Stamford, CT and graduated from Stamford High School in 1948. She moved to Bethel in 1967 with her husband and family.
She retired from working in the Bethel School System as a paraprofessional after 18 years. Betty was a very active member of the Bethel United Methodist Church since 1967. She served as the Sunday greeter for many years and was known for her kindness and hugs. She was active in the United Methodist Women’s group and was one of the original board members for the Village Pre-School. She served with the Kairos Prison Ministry for many years visiting women at the State prison in York, CT and the Federal prison in Danbury, CT. Betty attended Bible studies throughout her life.
She enjoyed traveling the United States with her brother Fred and recording their family genealogy.
Betty was active at the Bethel Senior center. She enjoyed calling Bingo and playing Pokeno. She was a member of many knitting and crocheting groups. Over the years Betty crocheted hundreds of prayer shawls and would craft items for sale at the church bazaar.
Betty was predeceased by her first and second husbands Robert E. Kaylor and William J. Lepus, brothers Henry and Fred Walters and sister Eva Mailand.
Betty is survived by her sons Eric Kaylor and Werner Kaylor (Jeanette), her granddaughter Jessie, her sisters- in-law Judy Walters of Florida and Ethalyn Walters of Wisconsin. She is also survived by her grandson Michael Sullivan and her great-grandchildren Michele, Ivy and Jaxson Sullivan of Danbury and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to recognize and thank her aides, Jasmine and Diane, for going above and beyond their duties and providing friendship and companionship for the last few years. The family is appreciative of Pastor John Parille and Betty’s church family.
In lieu of flowers please support the Bethel United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 141 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, CT on Saturday, May 31 at 11 AM. Burial will be private.
