Born in Brooklyn, NY, Gene was the son of the late Eugene Alfred Quarrie, Sr. and Josephine Purpura Quarrie. He attended Scarsdale High School and graduated from New York University. Gene served in the United States Air Force and was dedicated to God and to his country. Following his military service, he was a salesman for a major paper manufacturer before finding his true calling as a beloved elementary school teacher at Douglas Grafflin School in Chappaqua, NY, where he inspired hundreds of young minds.
A passionate lover of the outdoors, Gene was often found playing golf with wife, family and friends, tending to his cherished vegetable garden, or reading a good book on his serene country porch. His enthusiasm for literature and history led him to engage actively in book clubs, where he shared his insights and fostered meaningful connections. Gene’s warmth, curiosity, and commitment to learning left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Gene is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Constance M. (Gillotti) Quarrie; and his younger brother, Thomas Quarrie. He leaves behind his loving children: daughters: Mary Quarrie and Deborah Vanecek (and husband, Bob); and son, Eugene A. Quarrie, III. Gene’s legacy continues through his seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
