

It is with great sorrow to announce the passing of Gelindo Giro on March 25, 2025.
Gelindo was born November 11, 1936 in Udine, Italy. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie, his daughter Ann Marie of New York City, his son Peter of Danbury, his son David and daughter-in-law Nicole of Brookfield and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Giuliana. He is also survived by his brother Dionisio of Italy, his sisters-in-law, Ersiglia Giro, of Italy, Louise Warner of Queens, his brother-in-law, Louis Bona and sister-in-law, Cynthia Bona of Maine as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gelindo was predeceased by his parents, Luigi and Rosa (Gionco) Giro, his brothers Olindo and Lino Giro, and his sister Mirella Samassa of Italy.
Gelindo emigrated from Italy to Canada at age 19, where he built the transcontinental railroad. He then made his way to New York City, earning a living in construction as a plasterer where he then met Marie Bona. Gelindo and Marie were married May 28, 1966 and moved to Connecticut in 1972. Gelindo made a career change shortly before moving to Connecticut and for 20 years, was co-owner of “Mr. Pizza” in Goldens Bridge, New York. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and the family handyman. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. His hobby was woodworking and he built beautiful pieces that will be cherished by the family for generations. He gave generously of his time to all who asked and did it selflessly. He will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in his honor at St. Edward the Confessor Church in New Fairfield on April 9, 2025 at 10:30 AM . Interment will immediately follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury.
