Born on August 4, 1930, in Lens, France to Polish immigrants Józef and Bronisława. Genevieve was one of eight children, the oldest daughter, and a mother figure to all. She lived through World War II and the bombing of Dunkirk. After the war, her family moved to Bytom, Poland where she met her husband, Peter. There, she gave birth to her only child, Henry. While Peter served in the military, she managed the family farm while living under communist rule. They immigrated to Danbury, Connecticut in 1965 where she learned English, her third language. She worked at Eagle Pencil/Berol and later Davis & Geck until she retired.
In her retirement, Genevieve dedicated her life to her family, caring for her granddaughters and pets, gardening, cleaning to perfection, keeping in touch with family overseas, being a poker shark, and being a master seamstress and crocheter. She gave away countless hats, scarves, baby blankets and more to family, friends, and charities. Known as “Babcia” to most, she will be remembered for her caring nature, generosity, creativity, work ethic, impeccable taste, and as McDonald’s most frequent customer. She left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Genevieve is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Peter; her older brothers Władysław and Marian; and her sisters Czesława, Kazia, Henryka, and Maria.
She is survived by her sister, Janina of Poland; her son, Henry and wife, Deborah; her granddaughters: Stephanie and Genifer; several nieces, nephews, and cousins across Poland, Germany, France, and Canada.
The family would like to thank Regional Hospice and the staff at Danbury Hospital for their outstanding care of Genevieve in her final days.
