Georgette L. Kourt Michael

October 5, 1923July 15, 2014

Georgette Louise (Kourt) Michael, born in Brooklyn, NY on October 5, 1923, passed peacefully into our Lord’s care on Tuesday morning, July 15, 2014 in Danbury, CT.

She was preceded in passing by her husband of sixty-seven years Nicholas Michael in 2008. She is survived by her sons and daughter: Dennis N. Michael and wife, Eileen of Old Forge, NY; and Gary R. Michael Sr. and wife, Pamela of Danbury; and her daughter and best friend, Louise Michael-Duncan and husband, Charles A. Duncan of Danbury. She had seven grandchildren Nicholas, Christina; Gary Jr., Lauren and Alyssa; and Georgette and Sabrina. She had five great grand children and innumerable friends and relatives in Danbury; Hempstead, Long Island; Brooklyn, NY; and New Jersey.

Georgette was a lady, a good listener, a faithful and loyal friend, and a wonderful Mother. She cherished family and close friends above all else and ran a household that was often full of neighborhood children and family members from all over the country. A vivacious personality, sparkling sense of humor and a wonderful cook; her home was a destination for visitors making the annual pilgrimage to Danbury to visit “Georgette and Nicky.”

She was a world traveler and her travel companions were cousins and lifelong friends from Danbury. More recently she traveled the world with her daughter Louise: cruises to Bermuda and the Bahamas; tours of Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, and Brazil; trips to Prince Edward Island, Bar Harbor, Maine, Vermont, Disney World to celebrate the 2000, Philadelphia, Lancaster, Hershey Park, and many other destinations with Louise and her family.

Raised as an Eastern Orthodox parishner in Brooklyn, NY. After her wedding in Danbury to her Nicky in 1946, she moved to Danbury and became a life long member of St. Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church on Granville Avenue. She was member of: the St. Anthony’s Women’s Guild the Lebanon American Club Auxiliary and served as an officer and board member in both.

She worked for many years at Davis & Greck in Danbury and retired as a supervisor. She had a weekly scheduled luncheon with her cousins and friends and visited many local restaurants.

Her favorite things were Broadway shows, shopping, Swing music and dancing; traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. Always ready to go at a moments notice. She was a positive force of nature made everyone she knew smile and wonder how she kept up the energy even in her golden years.

The Liturgy of the Resurrection will take place at St. Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury on Saturday, July 19th at 10:30am with the Rev. Naji Kiwan, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. There will be no calling hours.
