Gerald Joseph Meagher, age 80, of Brookfield, Connecticut passed away peacefully on Thursday November 29, 2018. Gerald was born to Jeremiah and Nellie Meagher on April 23, 1938 in the Bronx, New York.
Jerry grew up in the Bronx, New York and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School where he exceled as captain of the track team. Post-graduation Jerry met his love of 60 years Madeline See who he married in 1958. Jerry went on to obtain a career with the New York City Transit Authority as superintendent for over 20 years.
All who knew Jerry knew that he was a fierce competitor in handball, racquetball and many other sports. Jerry was an avid swimmer, reader, boat enthusiast, model train collector and over all sports fan. One of Jerry's proudest accomplishments in sports was winning 1st place in the New Rochelle YMCA handball tournament, which was published in the local newspaper. Jerry enjoyed time spent at the YMCA of New Rochelle and as well as the YMCA of Brookfield. Jerry's greatest passion was his family and enjoyed all time that was spent with them on Candlewood Lake, Wolfe Park in Monroe, as well as model train shows.
Gerald is predeceased in life by his daughter Julie, his parents and his brothers Donald, Stephen and Raymond.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Madeline (See) Meagher, his beloved daughter Catherine and her husband G. Joseph Costella. Jerry is also survived by his admired grandchildren Christopher and wife Amanda Costella and Matthew and Julie Costella. In addition Jerry leaves behind his precious great-grandson Nicholas Matthew.
Family and friends are encouraged to call to Green Funeral Home on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church on December 3, 2018 at 10:00 am. Burial will take place immediately following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, New York.
