Gertrude Marianne Cuomo Gallotello

April 30, 1930April 1, 2013

Gertrude (Cuomo) Gallotello, 82, of Danbury died peacefully on early Monday morning following a short illness. She was the beloved wife of 61 years to Peter, who pre-deceased her in November, 2011.

Born in Manhattan, NY in 1930, Gertrude was the beloved daughter of Gennaro and Marianne (DiIorio) Cuomo, both deceased. Immediately following her high school graduation from Our Lady Of Pompeii on Bleecker in NY, Gertrude worked on Wall Street as a statistical clerk. In later years she worked alongside her husband in their textile business.

Gertrude was known as “Baye” to many, representing her being the youngest member of her family. She was most likely the first “fashionista”, very fond of leopard pocketbooks and shoes with everything matching from head to toe. She more recently became known as “Gertie” and adored being the first to dance at weddings and celebrations.

She is survived by her two daughters, Janet Gallotello and her husband Richard Lynch of Danbury, and Lucille Harriman of Newtown, her grandson, Jason Carter and his wife Alice (See) of Lakeland, FL, her granddaughter, Rebekah Harriman-Stites and her husband Christopher Stites of Newtown, and her great-grandson Fisher Peter Stites, also of Newtown.

Gertrude is also survived by one sister Christine Cuomo of Goshen, NY and was predeceased by her sister, Carmen LaGrutta of Goshen, NY and her brother Samuel Cuomo, of Fairfax, Virginia. She was the devoted aunt of 18 nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 9-10am, Thursday, April 4th at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, followed by a 10:30 Mass at St. Joseph’s Church and burial at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the EverWonder Children’s Museum of Newtown, P.O. Box 566, Botsford, CT 06404 to leave a legacy of love and laughter to her great grandson and all the children of Newtown CT.
