OBITUARY

Horacio M. Melo

March 27, 1973October 27, 2020

Horacio “Ray” M. Melo, age 47, of New Fairfield, Connecticut passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Sloan-Kettering hospital following a courageous battle.

Ray was born in Danbury, Connecticut on March 27, 1973. His younger years were spent in Bethel, CT, where he attended and graduated from local schools. Ray, at a young age was preceded in death by his parents Horacio Melo and Lidia Machado, his loving grandmother Maria Machado and most recently his Uncle Izzy of Kitimat, B.C., Canada.

Ray leaves behind his wife Kristine and son Aiden, his brother Mariano Melo of Portugal, his Aunt and Uncle Margaret and Jerry Palanzo, who were his legal guardians, his closest cousins Alice and Jerry Palanzo III who Ray revered as his younger sister and brother and his nieces Nia and Teagan Palanzo. In addition Ray leaves behind a son Tyler and granddaughter Marley Rose of Texas, several aunts and uncles and many cousins in Connecticut, Canada and Portugal and many, many close friends.

Ray at a young age began a career in the construction business learning the key trades from some great mentors who believed in him. His background and entrepreneurial spirit led him to starting his own and very successful business “Picture Perfect contracting”. Ray was very involved and well known in his community. He loved sponsoring Aiden’s baseball team in New Fairfield, and along with Kristine could be found on the sidelines of Aiden’s baseball and ice hockey games.

Ray was an active member in AA for over twenty years. This wonderful organization was a great help to him. His “give back” was sponsoring, supporting and helping many young people to find their way back to the right track in life. His personal story and lectures got the attention and changed the lives of many wayward souls. Ray will remain in their hearts forever.

Ray had an amazing presence, never lost his sense of humor and would light up any room he entered. He loved and admired his family and showed his undying affection by his constant teasing. No one was spared! We all love him very much and Ray will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

In keeping with Ray’s wishes and restrictions resulting from the current pandemic, a private funeral mass for "Ray" will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 8 Robinson Ave., Danbury, CT 06810. Pastor Samuel Scott will officiate. Following the funeral mass, a burial (public) will be held at St. Peter Cemetery, 71 Lake Ave Extension, Danbury, CT 06810.

To my beautiful cousin Ray,

The times we spent in this lifetime together were nothing short of magical. I treasure every single memory I have of our family trips to Connecticut. Even as a very young boy, you protected me. Your mom, my dad, and vovo must be rejoicing to have reunited with you in heaven. I love you so very much. May you be at eternal peace, my sweet cousin. Love always, Margret

Ray ,
We had the fortune to be able to meet you in this lifetime . We know you probably won’t believe this but you touched our hearts in more ways than you can imagine . We learned of your life and it’s ups and downs but most of all we remember your sense of humour, your courage and strength . We know that because of you many of us became a lot stronger . We loved to see you enjoy Aunt Margaret’s food and how much you teased each other , how at Teagans birthday the kids flocked around you , laughing and having so much fun . You have left an imprint in our hearts for ever , our prayer is that next time around your journey through life will be filled with love and light and that you will experience peace in your soul . Blessings from us to you and your wonderful family Christine, Aiden , Gerry Snr, Margaret , Gerry Jnr, Nia and Teagan .
Jayne, Carlyle and Zephan .

It is so hard to say goodbye to someone who was full of life and mentored so many young people to do the right thing and stay Spartan strong. You will be missed by your contagious laugh and that smile that was as big as your heart. You were definitely taken from us way to soon. Your Mom just could not wait to have you by her side. I know you will watch over us and your boys. Rest easy my friend. Until we meet again. Rock the heavens and make them have good laughs.

I have fond memories of Ray as a student in Berry School in Bethel. I can still see that radiant smile he had as a young boy sitting across from me at my reading table. I was saddened to hear of his passing and hope he is at peace. God Bless 🙏🏻

I will always remember Rays voice and laugh. I always knew where Ray was when I entered into any place , for a lunch date, a meeting, or any get together. I only had to pause at the entrance and listen for his loud, contagious laugh. I never had to wait long to hear it because, Ray was always the life of the party.
May you rest easy my friend!
Watch over your two sons and your family! ❤️
