Horst Kanning, 78, of New Fairfield, CT died Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Hildegard Gehlken Kanning. Horst was born in Oxstedt, Germany on Sept. 26, 1938 to the late Walter and Annie Kanning.
Horst owned and operated his own deli for many years before moving to CT. He then became a contractor doing plumbing, tiling and carpentry. He was a hardworking man who loved his wife, Hilde, and children. Even when he retired, he still worked watching homes in the winter season and removing snow. He was a very nice man and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children: Walter Kanning of New Fairifeld,CT ; Kevin Kanning and his wife, Lori, of Queens, NY; and Andraya Van Scotter and her husband, Keith, of Dover, NH. His grandchild, Kevin Kanning. His sister: Edda Wahlers.
Friends will be received at 9am-11:30am on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, where a service will be held at 11:30am.
