Howard J. Hagan

Howard James Hagan, a member of the Greatest Generation, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on December 21, 2011 at Glen Hill Nursing Home where he resided since June, 2003. He was born the youngest of three children to John and Norah Hagan on February 6, 1923 in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn, New York. Howard was 88 years old. He served in the United States Army during World War II and participated in all major campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge, earning three Battle Stars. He graduated from St. John’s University in Brooklyn, New York with a BA in Business.

Howard was predeceased by his wife, Nancy (Anne) on May 21, 2011. They were married 62 years. In 1971, he and his family moved to New Fairfield where he was quite active serving on the Planning Board and functioned as a member of the Board of Directors for the New Fairfield Public Library. Howard was also an active member of St. Edward the Confessor R.C. Church as a lector and other voluntary activities. He retired from Stanley Works in 1988 where he was the Purchasing Manager of the Hand Tool Division.

Howard is survived by his four children, Lt. Col. Howard J. Hagan (U.S. Army ret) (Diane), Maureen Archer (Michael), Eileen Rixmann and Timothy G. Hagan. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Ellen Bowerman(Corey), Timothy Archer (Marie), Captain Brendan Hagan, Terence Archer (Beth), Emma Rixmann and William Rixmann. Howard was the great grandfather of five. He is also survived by his brother, John V. Hagan Jr. and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, on Wednesday, December 28th, from 3 to 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield on Thursday, December 29th at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Mountainview Cemetery, New Fairfield.
