Irene was born in Danbury, CT to Francis and Alice Gordon on June 4, 1929. She attended St. Peter’s and Danbury High School. She married John Grabert on October 11th, 1952 in Danbury. She worked as a teacher’s aide at Morris Street School for over 25 years.
Irene was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader and never missed a UConn Huskies game. Irene loved traveling all over the world but especially to Boothbay Harbor, Maine and North Carolina. She was a devout Catholic and proud of her Irish heritage.
She is survived by her children: William J. Grabert and wife Kathleen of Charlotte, NC, Renee A. Grabert of Danielson, and Nancy Toussaint of Danbury, as well as her four beloved granddaughters: Brigid K. Grabert, Kelsie A. Grabert, Nicole R. Toussaint, and Michelle A. Toussaint. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack “Pudge” Grabert, and her brothers, William and Francis Gordon.
Cremation will take place at the direction of the family. A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Peter’s Church on Friday, October 19th at 10:30 AM.
