James Peter Kuhn, 62, died September 18th, 2020. He passed away peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital. James is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sheila (O’Connor) Kuhn and his three adult children: Sean, Caitlin, and Conor.
James was born on October 8th, 1957 and grew up in a loving home in Larchmont, NY, with his parents Jane (Martin) Kuhn and Paul Kuhn, along with his brother, Paul. He graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School in 1975 and attended Manhattan College graduating with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1979.
He began his career as an electrician in the medical field at General Electric, followed by senior roles at Toshiba, Hologic, and Alexian Brothers. James finished his career as Director of MS Customer Support for FUJIFILM Medical Systems, USA. Throughout his career, James was recognized for his intelligence, passion, and integrity. He was fortunate to have worked with many talented friends and colleagues.
From an early age, Jim loved playing hockey and earned the nickname “Killer” on the ice, and his most cherished memorabilia was the signed 1980 “Miracle on Ice” Winter Olympics game poster. He was also a diehard New York Giants and Boston Celtics fan. His wife jokes that he only married her for the season tickets and recalls when he headed out in a snowstorm to attend the 1986 Super Bowl, hoping to scalp tickets.
Jim was also an adrenaline seeker, quick to say yes to a jet-skiing, glider ride, rollercoaster, ziplining, or parasailing adventure. This love of sports and competition was passed on to his children. They plan to honor this legacy by planning a skydiving adventure, something he always wanted to do.
But above all, Jim loved his family. He enjoyed planning a hike with his children, organizing a spirited bowling or mini-golf outing, or celebrating one of their accomplishments over a great meal. His other love was the ocean, and happiness was vacationing with his family in the Outer Banks, Cape Cod, and Kennebunkport. If he was not reading under an umbrella, he was in the surf. No wave was too big or too small for him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, Friday, September 25th, 2020.
Memorial contributions may be made in James name to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate) or the New Milford Social Services (2 Pickett District Road, New Milford, CT 06776).
