James (Jim) Manning, Sr. of Brookfield, CT passed away on March 6, 2019. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Fayden) Manning. He leaves behind two daughters, Patricia Lennon and her husband Matthew, Mary Beth Oborski and her husband Pavlo, his son James Manning, Jr. and his wife Sonya, his niece Ann Marie Martelli and her husband Tony, his great niece Laura Martelli, as well as his four grandchildren, Matthew, Katie, Lucas and Patrick. He also leaves behind one brother, Eugene Manning.
Jim grew up in New Rochelle, NY. He had fond memories of his childhood days in New Rochelle. He lived in Ireland for two years as a youth during the Great Depression and was able to return there several times throughout his life. He was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War and often spoke of his time in Korea. Upon his return he graduated from Iona College and was forever a big supporter of his alma mater, especially their sports’ teams. He spend most of his career as an executive recruiter based in New York City. He spent many football seasons as a season ticket holder cheering on his beloved New York Giants. Many would say that he had the “gift of gab” and was always able to work anything that had to do with New Rochelle into any conversation. He frequented Playland in Rye, NY as a child and continued riding the roller coaster and bumper cars each summer, even at 89 years old.
He will probably be best remembered for being kind and for never having a bad word to say about anyone. He enjoyed spending his retirement playing poker, attending events at the senior center, going to the movies, and taking a couple of trips back to his beloved Ireland. He loved Irish music and anything that had to do with Irish culture. Jim was very proud of his children and loved and appreciated his grandchildren. He would love the fact that his wake will be held on March 17, St. Patrick’s Day from 2- 5 PM at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 18, 2019 at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, CT at 10 AM. Burial will immediately follow at St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury, CT.
