Janet C. King

The heart center and ever-loving force of our family was lost to us leaving an irreplaceable void. Janet Carter King was born in New York, NY on May 25, 1949 to Miranda Mayo and Wesley Carter, Jr. She was the oldest of their two children.

As a young girl, she developed a love for ballet. Later, she attended The High School of Performing Arts (informally known as “PA”) with a focus on dance. From there, Janet went to the University of Bridgeport, where she would work to help put herself through school. She would then go on to receive a master’s degree from The City College of New York (CCNY). Upon completion, she began a lifelong career in education at White Plains High School in White Plains, NY.

In 1974, Janet Carter married Dan King and had two (2) children: Danny and David. She and Dan worked tirelessly to raise their children passing down their strong work ethic, while prioritizing the importance of education.

An educator herself, after spending two years in a classroom, she went on to spend the next 40 years as a guidance counselor. All 42 years were spent at White Plains High School, and at the time of her retirement, she was the longest tenured employee in the building. Janet served as the counselor and advisor for multiple generations of families, in some cases, neighbors of hers, and proudly guided their steps as they matriculated through high school.

Those who knew her later in life will attest that though her body weakened, her soul and spirit remained strong. She was an avid reader, masterful baker and cake decorator, enjoyed aerobics and Zumba classes, attending Alvin Ailey Dance Theater performances, traveling the world with her husband and dear friends, spending countless hours with her two boys, as well as time with her grandchildren.

Though she completed her journey in the physical on September 5, 2026, the everlasting memories will live on. To cherish her memory, Janet King leaves behind her husband Dan, their children Danny and David, daughter in law Veronnica, grandchildren Eli, Davae, and Daniel, her brother Harry Ronald Carter, and numerous close friends.

A Celebration of Janet's Life will be held at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St, Danbury, CT on October 10, 2026, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.
