Jerome G. “Jerry” Agius, affectionately known as “Gangus,” passed away peacefully at his home in Bridgewater, CT, on May 16, 2025, at the age of 95, surrounded by his loved ones. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Aileen M. Agius.
Born on July 6, 1929, in Manhattan, NY, Jerry was the son of the late Carmelo and Mary Agius. He lived in Ridgefield, CT, for 27 years before moving to Bridgewater, where he resided for the past 33 years.
Jerry is survived by his children: Patrick and his wife Kate of Danbury, CT; Christine and her husband John of Mount Kisco, NY; and Daniel and his wife Jacquelyn of Newtown, CT. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and his longtime loving companion, Valerie Goldstein of Brookfield, CT. In addition to his wife and parents, Jerry was predeceased by his sister, Susan, and daughter, Marianne.
A proud veteran, Jerry served honorably in the U.S. Army with the 12th Armored Division after World War II during the subsequent occupation of Germany. He achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7) and was awarded the Expert Infantryman Badge and the Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, reflecting his service in Company A, 17th Armored Infantry Battalion, and later with the 12th Armored Infantry Battalion at Fort Hood in 1951. After his discharge, he earned an engineering degree from the University of Connecticut on the GI Bill, setting the foundation for a remarkable career.
Jerry epitomized entrepreneurship and tireless dedication, excelling in every endeavor he pursued. While working for Benrus Watch Co. in Waterbury, CT, he earned the prestigious President’s Award, presented by Victor Kiam II, former owner of Benrus Watch Co., Remington Products, and the New England Patriots. In 1975, Jerry and his longtime friend, neighbor, and business partner, BJ Bertram, purchased a Danbury company that they later named Nordex, Incorporated. Now a thriving 65-year-old corporation based in Brookfield, CT, Nordex remains a third-generation family business, owned and operated by Jerry’s son Daniel and grandson Daniel Jr., alongside their dedicated coworkers, many of whom have spent their entire careers with the company.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jerry was a mentor, adventurer, and loving father. His passions included motorcycling, race car driving, open-water power boating, and fishing. A PADI-certified diver to a depth of 100 feet, he embraced life with a spirit of adventure. Above all, Jerry was a Promise Keeper by the Grace of God, deeply committed to his faith and family.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Abbey Road Family Care for their tender and dedicated care of our dad over the past 2 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys Roman Catholic Church, Brookfield, CT, on May 19, 2025, at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown, CT, with military honors.
