Born May 6, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Nassib and Esma (Nimer) Jowdy. Joan graduated from Danbury High School in 1952 and upon graduation, very proudly attended the University of Connecticut.
In 1955, Joan married her knight in shining armor, Raymond Asmar, who was truly the love of her life. Together, they raised five adoring children. She is survived by her children, Raymond Asmar Jr. (Adrienne), of Delray Beach, Fl, William Asmar (Hiam), of Danbury, Debbie Senker (James) of Bethesda, MD, David Asmar of New York City and Warren, Ct, and Marshall Asmar of Danbury, Ct. Joan was also a proud grandmother and is further survived by her five beautiful and loving grandchildren, Hannah, Rachel, William, Matthew and Elizabeth.
As one of ten children Joan is survived by her sisters, Margaret Essa, Evelyn Attick; and brother, Raymond Jowdy; sister-in-laws, Jacqueline Jowdy and Josepha Jowdy; and best friend and confidant, Audrienne Buzaid.
She was predeceased by her siblings: Teddy, Gloria, James, Taffy, Edward Jowdy and Alice Webster.
Joan was a devoted wife and mother always making sure there was a home cooked meal for her family. Tennis was her sport which her family will happily carry on. Joan was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Lebanon American Club and served in many positions at St. Anthony’s Church Ladies Guild.
The perfect mother -devoted wife and loyal friend, Joan and Ray Asmar were a love story for the ages, passing away only five days apart.
There will be a double funeral for both Joan and Ray. The Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 12pm on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at St. Anthony Maronite Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury with Rev. Naji Kiwan, Pastor, officiating. A private family burial will be held on Monday.
The family will receive friends from 9:30am to 11:30am on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at St. Anthony Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury.
