Joe Jelosits

Joe Jelosits passed peacefully at his home on July 17, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born on January 12, 1935, in Reinersdorf, Austria to Johann and Paulina (Sorger) Jelosits. Joe immigrated to Toronto, Canada, in the 1950s before eventually settling in the Bronx, New York, where he met and married Maria, built his life and raised his family. Joe was proud of his Austrian heritage, but he was also proud to become a citizen of the United States in 1986.

Joe spent many years working as a skilled machinist in the manufacturing industry. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. After retiring, Joe moved to Danbury, Connecticut in 2003 where he enjoyed being closer to his family.

Joe found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved music, gardening, spending time outdoors and watching sports. A loyal New York sports fan, he faithfully cheered on the New York Mets, New York Jets and New York Rangers through every season. Above all else, Joe treasured the time he spent with his family, who were the center of his life.

Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Maria Jelosits, his brothers, Wilhelm, John and Franz Jelosits; and his son-in-law, Michael Begley.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Anita Begley of New Fairfield, Connecticut, and Joann Reinhold (Lloyd) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; his cherished grandchildren, Madison, Ryan, Morgan and Megan Begley of New Fairfield, Connecticut; his sister, Helen Sommer of Reinersdorf, Austria; and many extended family members.

Joe will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, unwavering love for his family, and the example he set through a lifetime of perseverance and dedication. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

May he rest in eternal peace.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 4 - 7PM at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 24 at 11AM at St. Edward the Confessor Parish, 21 Brush Hill Rd., New Fairfield.

Burial at Wooster Cemetery, 20 Ellsworth Ave., Danbury, to follow.
