Joe S. Hochberg of Wilton, Connecticut, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and a man who lived a life filled with service, family, friendship, and love.
Joe was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late Irving and Sarah Hochberg. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a cook while stationed at Panzer Kaserne in Böblingen, Germany. His love and talent for cooking followed him home, and he later put those skills to work as a line cook at the renowned 21 Club in New York City.
Joe’s career eventually took a different path when he joined the New York City Police Department. He served the people of New York City with dedication for 25 years, spending time at the 6th Precinct in Greenwich Village and at Midtown North on West 54th Street. Following his retirement from the NYPD, Joe and his beloved wife, Linda, relocated to Connecticut, where he worked in a dental office before eventually retiring for good.
In retirement, Joe found even more time to enjoy one of his greatest passions: cooking and baking. He took great pleasure in preparing meals and treats for family and friends and loved nothing more than entertaining the people he cared about. His home was a place where food, laughter, friendship, and family came together.
Joe was deeply loved and admired by those who knew him. Friends described him as a great man who was always willing to lend a hand whenever someone needed help. He adored his wife, Linda, and their 43 years of marriage were a testament to the love and companionship they shared. Friends often affectionately described Joe and Linda as “two peas in a pod.” He was also a devoted and loving father to his son, Patrick.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Linda; his son, Patrick, and his wife, Christine; his grandsons, Jeremy, Matthew and his wife, Jordan; and his four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Emma, Lincoln, and Hudson. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Joe’s was a life well lived — a life marked by service, devotion to family, generosity, friendship, and an abiding love of bringing people together. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the many lives he touched.
