John attended St. Cyril and Methodius School Bridgeport, Graduated Fairfield Prep, class of 1952 and Norwich University VT with a degree in Engineering Management, class of 1957.
John married Mary Teresa Cunningham in 1957. In 1959 he entered the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. With his wife and 2 young daughters he was deployed to Karlsruhe, Germany. His love of travel started while in Europe. Upon honorable discharge from active duty in 1963 he remained in the Active Reserves U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until his honorable discharge in 1968.
John and his family moved to New Fairfield in 1964. He was an active member of St. Edward's Church as well as the Knights of Columbus, McGivney Council #29. His career included working at Davis & Geck, Danbury CT, Mosler Electronic Security Systems, Lumelite Division of Richardson and Merrill and retiring at Perkin Elmer.
Johns love of travel and successful goal was to visit all continents of the world, as well as to sharing his pictures and travel books. Hobbies included being a Sea Scout in younger years, skiing, working in his garden, projects around the house as well as attending his children and grandchildren's sports events.
John is predeceased by his loving wife Mary (Cunningham) Barnick. John is survived by his children Cindy (Rick) Palmer, Sharon (Dave) Pijnenburg, John M. Barnick (Trish), and Mary (Joseph) DeLuise. John is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Visitation for John will be held Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St, Danbury, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Church, 26 Dodgingtown Rd, Bethel, CT. Committal will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, CT-37, New Fairfield, CT.
