Jose was born on May 15, 1953 in Villa Franca da Serra, Portugal. He was a son of the late Anibal and Alice Freitas. He spent most of his childhood and younger adult years in Angola, Africa where he attended school and served in the army.
After the army, Jose immigrated to the United States where he spent the last 46 years building a life with his loving wife, Emilia. His family was his most prized possession.
Jose retired after working many years as a machine operator at Burndy in Bethel. In his spare time he enjoyed working as a handyman and could fix just about anything. He was a simple man with tremendous integrity. One of kindest and most generous of men, you could always count on him.
Besides his wife, Jose is survived by his two daughters: Katia Freitas and Jennifer Freitas; his adored granddaughters: Laila Pacheco and Mila Pacheco. He is also survived by his mother-in- law, Julia Saro; sister, Maria Dos Anjos Fernandes; brother-in-law, Orlando Fernandes; niece, Tania Fernandes; and nephew, Paulo Fernandes. His brother-in-law, Fernando Guilherme; niece, Sophia Guilherme; and nephew, Claudio Guilherme. Survivors also include aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Deer Hill Ave., Danbury. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Danbury.
Family and friends will be received from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Monday, November 21, 2022 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
