Jose Verissimo

Jose Furtado Verissimo, age 82, son of the late Manuel Furtado Verissimo and Maria da Gloria Oliveira, was called home by the Lord on March 21, 2017. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 58 years, Maria Isaura and his beloved family.

Jose was born on June 9, 1934 in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores. He immigrated to America with his wife and children in 1972 in pursuit of the American dream which he successfully achieved.

He is survived by his daughter, Emilia Medeiros and her husband Luis, his son Fernando Verissimo and his wife Rosa, his Grandchildren Pedro Medeiros (Hady), Tanya Gentile (Anthony), John Verissimo (Courtney), Kathleen Santos (Farley), and Kevin Medeiros. Also survived by the light of his life, his Great Grandchildren Zachary, Khloë, Emiliana, and Lincoln.

He was predeceased by two sisters and their husbands, Maria and Hermano Cordeiro, and Altina and Adriano Faria. He is survived by two sisters, Sizalda Quadros and Serafina Furtado both of Florida, and two brothers, John Verissimo (Isaura) of Danbury, and Silvino Verissimo (Alda) of São Miguel, Azores and many nieces and nephews.

Services and burial will be private.

The family asks that donations be made in lieu of flowers to Dorothy Day Hospitality House P.O. Box 922 Danbury, CT 06813 due to Jose's passion for helping the less fortunate and those in need.
