Joyce A. Proteau

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin and aunt, Joyce A. (McCarthy) Proteau, who died at Danbury Hospital on November 24, 2023, at the age of 74.

Joyce was born in that same hospital on June 30, 1949, to Harold J. and Catherine R. (Douglas) McCarthy. She spent most of her life in Danbury where she attended Sacred Heart parochial and Danbury public schools.

After retiring from her position as a director at the Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals complex in Ridgefield, CT some six years ago, she enjoyed the leisure time she was able to spend with her friends and family.

Left behind to grieve are her beloved husband, Roberto Lopez Tovar; daughter, Susie Audet; granddaughters: Ashley Barry, Heather Barry, and Danielle Barry; great granddaughter, Avery Morin; and stepdaughter, Teresa Lopez. Also surviving are her brothers: Michael G. McCarthy, Harold McCarthy, Timothy Fabian; and sister, Ellen (McCarthy) Shost. There are also numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, and In-Laws.

Joyce was predeceased by her brother, Douglas T. McCarthy; and sister, Kathleen E. (McCarthy)(Whitlock) Hirst.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service, from 12:00pm - 1:00pm on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joyce’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
