

Karthene was born in Danbury, daughter of the late Frank and Gilda Tomanio. She was raised in Danbury and graduated from Danbury High School. After working at the Ration Board during WWII, she worked as a secretary for the FCI Danbury, Danbury Block Company, Hat City Paper, CT Motor Vehicle Department, and the family business RJ Gallagher Inc. She also worked as secretary at the Danbury Police Department, where she was promoted to be the first Danbury Police Woman. She had a great passion for music and playing the piano. She and her husband Ralph were also longtime members of the Danbury Yacht Club.
In addition to her husband Ralph, she is survived by her son Ralph J. Gallagher, Jr., and wife Ginny, her daughter Julie Johnson and husband Peter, both of Danbury, her granddaughters Heather Knapp and husband John and Robyn Sabbagh and her husband Nabeel, as well as her great-grandchildren; Riley, Adria and John Knapp, IV, a niece Carla Ricci and husband Sylvester of Ocala, Florida and nephew Jay Rebhan and wife Rita of Brookfield.
Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Sunday, August 20, from 2 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. with a service to follow at the funeral home at 4:15 p.m. Interment will be private.
