Katharine C. Haley
January 4, 1924 – October 7, 2021
Katharine Haley (Kay), age 97, passed away at home on October 7, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born in Larchmont, NY on January 4, 1924, a daughter of the late Philip and Katharine Cobden (Kopper).
She earned her R.N. at the Danbury Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She remained friends with her classmates over the decades, attending regular luncheon “reunions” into her 80’s.
Kay married her husband, Bruce, in 1946 and together they raised five children. After retiring from nursing, she had a second career with Southern New England Telephone as a directory assistance operator.
Kay attended St. James’ Episcopal Church for many years as well as First Assembly of God. Kay had a fiery personality but loved the Lord. She couldn’t abide bigotry and saw all people as children of God. She put little value on “things”. If someone admired something of hers, she often would offer it to them as a gift (“if you like it, you should have it”). If you asked why?, she might say, “It’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven”.
Kay will be missed by her son, Richard Haley; daughters Phyllis Chaber (George) and Emily Haley.
She was predeceased by her husband Bruce of 56 years, as well as her sister, Emilie Roseborough; and her sons: Thomas Haley and John Haley.
There will be a graveside service at St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury at 10am on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021 with the Rev. Dustin Trowbridge, Rector of St. James Episcopal Church, Danbury, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. James’ Church, 25 West St, Danbury, CT 06810 or the Danbury Animal Welfare Society, 147 Grassy Plain St, Bethel, CT 06801.
