OBITUARY

Laurie Ann Brown

April 6, 1963May 19, 2020

Laurie A. Brown, 57, of Danbury, CT formerly of Sandy Hook, CT passed away unexpectedly at Danbury Hospital on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. She was the devoted mother of Gillian Brown.

Laurie was born in Bridgeport, CT, a daughter of the late Fay Brown and Stephen R. Brown. She was raised in Sandy Hook where she developed a strong bond with her childhood friends. A graduate of Newtown High School, she majored in Communications and Theatre Arts at Western Connecticut State University where she made many lifelong friends and enjoyed performing in the theatre productions. Laurie participated in community theatre until her long-awaited starring role as a mother.

She instilled her love of theatre in her daughter with her first Broadway show at age 3. They enjoyed taking frequent trips to New York City to attend shows and meet the actors at the stage door. In addition to being an avid cat lady, she was known for her kind heart, uplifting sense of humor, and bright spirit. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and was always there for those around her.

Laurie worked for 15 years at Eastern Account System, most recently as the Director of Analytics.

In addition to her daughter, Gillian, she is survived by her sisters Nancy Cedor and her husband John of Sandy Hook, Janice and her husband Alan of Bethel, and brother Stephen Brown and his wife Mary of Beacon Falls. She was the adored aunt of John and Jesse Cedor, Jaclyn Santasiere, Karen Blazewicz, Matthew and Jeffery Gies, Lisa Parsons, Krystal, Stephany, and Jacob Brown, and 9 great nieces and nephews.

Contributions in Laurie’s memory can be made to the Gillian Brown Educational Trust, care of Newtown Savings Bank, 32 Churchill Rd, Newtown, CT. Attention Philip Lukianuk.

Loyal friend and confidante. Non-judgmental. Loving heart. Loved her family. Fiercely proud of her beautiful nieces and nephews. Wanted to be a Mom more than anything, and made that happen on her own against many odds. And from the moment she saw Gillian she knew that this was a match made in heaven. All that is good in Laurie is reflected in Gillian. They were an amazing team, taking care of each other. Not a conversation could go by without her saying how lucky she was to be Gillian's Mom. I know that Laurie's light will continue to guide Gillian, and I pray that sweet girl finds peace in her heart.
My dear friend, thank you for your love and friendship. We will watch over your baby girl so you may rest in peace.

Dear Gillian,
My daughter Robin was a close friend of your Mom's since childhood. She loved and admired her as did everyone else. She was a beautiful soul and will be dearly missed. Thank God that God sends angels like Laurie to make this world a better and more loving place
Remember... there's one more angel in Heaven and she's still watching out over you.
Naomi Randall...Robin Warren's mom.

I worked with Laurie at Eastern for 7 years and she was truly the best part of that office. She was always so kind and such a wonderful person and friend. I knew that no matter what she was someone who I could always turn to with a problem at work or in life. She will be truly missed.

Laurie. She met me, chose me, drew me in, included me, taught me, made me laugh and set me on a path when I very briefly knew her well so many years ago. I am very lucky my life brushed hers. My heart breaks for everyone who has loved her in the years before and since then.

I am so sorry to read of Laurie's passing. I worked with her at Pathmark many years ago. She was the sweetest girl, bubbly, cheerful, always smiling! And she loved the theatre!! I remember her selling tickets for one of the productions she was in at WCSU. My deepest sympathy to her daughter, Gillian and to her family. I know she will be missed terribly.

It is impossible to capture the kindness, the love, the humor, and the generosity of spirit that encompassed Aunt Laurie. When I think of her now, many nights of board games and coffee after family gatherings come to mind. Her enthusiasm for life and deep love of her family made her so wonderful to be with. There is something so special about spending time with someone who is just so happy to be with you and so present in that moment. That was Aunt Laurie.

There are so many stories I could share - like how she thought she was going to have to carry me out of the movie theater because I was crying so hard when she took me to see Titanic or how special it was when she took me to see “Guys and Dolls” for my 16th birthday. But really, all of these stories just fill me with warmth because that’s the real memory - the feeling you had when you were with Aunt Laurie is something I will always cherish and miss.

I will forever remember the smile on Laurie's face that
Christmas so long ago. Her grandmother was laying on her tummy, by the Christmas tree, Laurie decided to climb on her back, ride her like a pony. And they both had the biggest smile on their faces. Love and miss you my beautiful niece.

Laurie was truly one of a kind. A gentle, kind, special soul that is unmatched to any other. We’ve had the pleasure of working with Laurie, but besides just co-workers she was a great friend to us. We are so thankful for her guidance and for all lessons she has taught us. We will miss you and your warm smile, dear friend.
