Leslie was born in Port Chester, NY on September 16, 1942, daughter of the late Howard and Ruth (Clark) Wellstood. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Robert L. Johnson.
Leslie graduated from Port Chester High School in 1960. She later worked as a manager at Macy’s and then owned her own businesses, ‘Paper & Paste’ and Duffy’s Deli in Newtown, CT. She was an active parishioner at Saint James’ Episcopal Church in Danbury, CT. Always finding ways to help those around her, among her contributions to the church were her role as a member of the Altar Guild and creating hundreds of handmade teddy bears given to children’s charities all around Danbury. Leslie was also a member of the Danbury Garden Club. She was a gifted quilter and baker and showered everyone she knew with her lovingly made treasures.
In addition to Robert, her husband of 58 years, she was the cherished mother of: Jennifer and her husband, Richard Pane; Robert and his wife, Toni (Campagniolo),; and Laurie and her partner, Bill Klous. Leslie was most proud of her four grandchildren of whom she cherished deeply: Meghan and Alex Pane; and Ashley and Emily Johnson. Her grandchildren were her absolute joy and she never missed a chance to cheer each of them on at every game, dance recital or school event, sewing costumes, baking magical cakes and always beaming with pride.
Leslie is also survived by her loving brothers: Michael and his wife, Marissa, Wellstood; Peter and his wife, Shelley Wellstood; and her sister-in-law, Karen Provino, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Carl Provino, and sister, Marjorie Wylie.
Forever in our hearts.
There will be a Graveside Burial Service Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11:00am at Wooster Cemetery, Section 16, Danbury, CT.
