Louann Daragan

Louann Daragan, 82, a beloved sister, aunt, friend, teacher, and lifelong volunteer, passed away July 16, 2026, at Danbury Hospital after a period of declining health. Her life was a testament to her deep faith and her commitment to serving others.

Born in Danbury, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Christine (Klinzing) Daragan and spent her life in the city she proudly called home. She attended Danbury High School and graduated from St. Joseph's College and Western Connecticut State University, earning degrees in Mathematics, Religious Studies, and Education. Throughout her adult life, Louann dedicated herself to serving her community with compassion, joy, and contagious energy.

Louann began her 34-year teaching career in 1967 at Danbury High School, touching the lives of thousands of students as a mathematics teacher and women's cross-country coach. She took great pride in teaching and found one of her greatest rewards in seeing her students succeed. Former students and their families remained lifelong friends, a testament to the lasting impact she had both inside and outside the classroom.

A devout Catholic, Louann was an active member of St. Peter's Church. She attended daily Mass, served as a lector, sang in the choir and folk group, and generously shared her time, leadership, and talents in support of the Cursillo and Emmaus programs.

A passionate crafter, she lovingly made and donated hundreds of blankets for newborns at Danbury Hospital. After recovering from a heart attack, she became a mentor and source of encouragement for fellow cardiac patients, volunteering at the hospital and offering support to others facing similar challenges.

Louann loved to travel. Over the years, she traveled throughout Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the United States. She delighted in sharing her love of travel by inviting her nieces and nephew to explore the world beyond their hometowns and experience new places and cultures.

Louann was also a proud member of the National Education Association and Delta Kappa Gamma, served as an instructor in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), and was elected to multiple terms on the Danbury Zoning Commission.

Whether teaching, traveling, or serving her church, she brought enthusiasm and wholehearted commitment to everything she did.

She will be lovingly remembered by her brothers, Thomas and his wife, Bette, of Texas, and Robert and his wife, Suzanne, of South Carolina; two nieces; three nephews; one grandnephew; and five grandnieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church, 104 Main St., Danbury, on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 10:30 AM. The family will receive guests at the church at 9:30 AM.
