Mrs. Farias was born in the parish of Samaioes, County of Chaves, Portugal, daughter of the late Henrique Antonio Pinto and Barbara de Oliveira. After marrying her late husband, Octavio F. Farias, she immigrated to the United States on July 4, 1972. When celebrating this anniversary yearly, she often shared the story of driving home from the airport after arriving in the U.S. and asking family members if fireworks were always shot off nightly, unaware that the date was of significance for her new home country.
Mrs. Farias is survived by her son Joao (John) Luis Farias, daughter Ana Cristina Farias, grandchildren Sophia Louise and Elliott Reid Farias, sisters Edite Oliveira da Costa, Fernanda de Oliveira Pinto, Carminda de Oliveira Barreira, and brothers Flavio de Oliveira and Francisco de Oliveira. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Farias raised her family in Danbury and worked at both Risdon and Diba Industries before retiring. She was a founding member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and was fond of gardening, often making beautiful floral arrangements using the blooms from her well-established gardens.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 149 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury, on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, 71 Lake Ave. Ext., Danbury.
