Manuel was born January 21, 1930 in Coentral Castanheira de Pera, Portugal the son of the late Diamantino and Palmira Alves. He had been a resident of Danbury since 1966, and was employed as a mason working in the construction industry throughout the greater Danbury area.
Manuel was a parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and a member of both the Sons of Portugal Club and the Portuguese American Club in Danbury. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending the summer months in Portugal.
Manuel is survived by his daughter Ann M. McEwan and her husband Peter of Danbury, two brothers: Victor Alves and Jose Alves both of Danbury, two sisters: Sofia Antonio of Palm Coast FL, and Manuela Lourenco of Portugal, three grandchildren: Peter McEwan Jr. of Stamford, Brandon McEwan of Danbury and Ashley O'Brien and her husband Vincent of New Fairfield, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday March 27th at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Danbury. Burial will be in Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
