Manny was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures, spending time with his dear friends and tending to his yard, where he took great pride in keeping everything just right.
He was a devoted father and grandfather who valued hard work, kindness, and laughter. His family and friends will always remember his warm presence, his love for the outdoors, and the way he could turn even the hardest tasks into something enjoyable.
Manuel Alberto Tomas was born in Cadoico, Portugal to the late Anibal Nunes Tomas and Estela Tomas on September 9, 1946. Manny went to school in Danbury, CT and was a 1964 graduate of Danbury High School.
He married Hilda Miranda Tomas on January 18, 1969 at St. Francis Church in Naugatuck, CT.
He worked as a service technician at Leahy’s Fuel Inc. for over 40 years, where he dedicated himself to a lifetime of hard work and providing for his family. He took great pride in his work and valued the lessons he learned along the way, always leading by example with his strong work ethic and determination.
Manny met many people through his job many of whom started as customers but quickly became lifelong friends. His warm personality, kindness, and ability to connect with others left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Manny was a proud veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Manny was actively involved in the Portuguese-American community in the Danbury area and was also a proud member of Casa de Benfica and the Portuguese Culture Center.
Besides his wife and parents, Manny was predeceased by his sister, Antonia Tomas.
Manny is survived by his children: Elizabeth Smith and her husband, Greg; David Tomas and his wife, Grace; and Gary Tomas. His grandchildren: Zackary and Nicoletta Smith, Devon and Benjamin Tomas, and Noah and Zoey Tomas. Also surviving are his brother, Joe Tomas and wife, Diane; and his sister, Patricia Lopes and her husband, Manny.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Manuel will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025 at St. Gregory the Great Church, Danbury, with the Rev. Matthew Loman, Associate Pastor, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
