Margaret K. Mahoney

Margaret was born June 28, 1921 in Sugar Notch, PA the daughter of the late Lawrence and Bridget (Lenahan) Lenahan. Raised and educated in Pennsylvania, she received her degree in nursing from the Saint Mary Hospital School of Nursing in Hoboken, NJ.

Margaret was employed as a registered nurse at both Saint Clare Hospital and Manhattan General Hospital in New York City, where she met her husband William J. Mahoney. Following her marriage, they had resided in Stuyvesant Town in lower Manhattan until moving to Danbury in 1964.

Margaret was a longtime parishioner of Saint Joseph Church where she was active in both its Ladies Guild, Altar and Rosary Societies. She was a bingo night volunteer for 20 years. Also, she was a former member of the Immaculate High School Parents Club, and the Danbury Seniors Group. Margaret enjoyed crocheting, baking, and was very devoted in taking care of her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Margaret is survived by her son: Robert Mahoney and his wife Barbara of Guilderland, NY, two daughters: Claire Ann Anderson and her husband Arnold of Danbury and Kathleen Wakeford and her husband Geoff of Danbury, one sister: Ann Behm of Wilmington DE, three grandchildren: Meghan Wakeford, Kara Wakeford, and Ryan Anderson, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was predeceased by her siblings: Mary Lenahan, Sara Lenahan, Anita Vincent, Francis Lenahan, and John Lenahan.

The Mahoney family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Glen Hill Center for the exceptional care provided to Margaret throughout her stay at the facility.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Thursday July 3rd in Saint Joseph Church, Danbury. Burial will be in Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street Danbury on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:00am
