Maria Alcina (Cabral) Knapp, 66, of Danbury, Connecticut, passed away on December 29, 2014 at Danbury Hospital. Maria was born on October 5, 1948 in S. Paio-Gouveia, Portugal to the late Manuel and Emilia Cabral. She immigrated to the United States as a young child where she proudly became an American citizen. Maria married her Danbury High School sweetheart, Richard Knapp. They spent 44 wonderful years together creating a happy and loving home for their two daughters Dawn and Kellie, which they happily shared with their nieces and nephews.
Maria was a lover of animals and the ocean, always joked around with those she loved, and never turned away from a person in need. Most of all, Maria was a lover of the details in life and would never shy away from pointing them out with a child-like awe. One of her favorite stories was 'Ferdinand the Bull' and she lived her life by his motto... "I like it better here where I can just sit quietly and smell the flowers."
Maria is survived by her husband Richard Knapp, daughter Dawn Smith , son-in-law Christopher, and granddaughter Keira Smith; daughter Kellie DiMone, son-in-law Frank, and step-granddaughter Gabryella DiMone; sisters Maria Fernanda Bento and Virginia Bass; brothers Louis, Lawrence, and Edward Cabral; nieces and nephews; life-long friends; pets Bella and Pippa; and "grand-puppies" Squally, Jewel, and Kasey.
And much like Ferdinand, we all know she is sitting there, under her favorite tree, smelling the flowers just quietly watching us all.
