Maria was born in Brooklyn, New York to parents Salvatore and Frances (Agosta) Garretto on May 11, 1929.
Maria served as a librarian for the Danbury Public Library for 25 years before retiring.
She was a woman of God who religiously attended church. Her interests included keeping her family close, and meticulously tending to her garden and lawn. She also enjoyed reading books relating to history, listening to the music of the 40's and was adept at needle point.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents Salvatore and Frances, her brother John Garretto and her sons Louis and Christopher Panté.
Maria is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, Louis Pante; adoring children, son Richard, daughters Maria Pante and Linda Pante Ross; five grandchildren - Christopher, Richard, Joyce, Dominique and Josiah, and great-grandchildren Donovan and Phoebe.
She will be deeply missed, especially her beautiful smile that lit up the room.
She was truly an angel here on earth!
Visitation will be held at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St, Danbury, on October 1, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Joseph Church, 376 Main St., Danbury, on October 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM followed by burial at St. Peter's Cemetery, 71 Lake Ave. Ext., Danbury.
In lieu of flowers, Maria's family would appreciate donations to religious communities where prayers and Masses for her will be offered.
