

Maria was born in Monteiros, Bragado, Portugal, a daughter of the late Jose Paulino Sousa and Ana Da Silva. She was raised there with her many siblings. She immigrated to Danbury, CT in 1965 with husband and later had their daughter. She proudly became an American citizen on November 20, 1970.
Upon arriving to the United States she worked in manufacturing at various factories in the area. She was in domestic work for over 25 years and self-employed as Maria's D & E Cleaning until retiring.
As a devout Catholic, she was a devoted parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Danbury. She was also a member of the rancho folklore group, Grupo Folclórico do Imaculado Coração de Maria. She loved to sing and sew which she learned in her adolescent years. She was devoted to her family. She found her joy in serving others and did so until her final days.
Besides her husband and parents, Maria was predeceased by her siblings Candida da Gloria Silvia Sousa and Domingos J. Silva Sousa.
Maria is survived by her daughter Anna M. Sousa and her husband Antonio Sousa. Her granddaughters: Dellamarie Pereira and her husband, Andre Pereira and Emily Sousa and her fiancé, Ricardo Araya. Her great- grandchildren Arabella and Liam Pereira.
She is also survived by her siblings: José F. Da Silva, António J. Sousa, João J. Sousa, Maria Emilia Pinto and Maria Celeste Martins. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
A Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday February 16, 2021 at 11:30am in St. Peter Cemetery (Sec. #23), Danbury, CT
